He has lots of challenging acting scenes, and he's up to them. Culkin is the little boy who co-starred with John Candy in " Uncle Buck," and here he has to carry almost the whole movie. What works in the other direction, however, and almost carries the day, is the gifted performance by young Macaulay Culkin, as Kevin. The plot is so implausible that it makes it hard for us to really care about the plight of the kid. HOME THE MOVIE RATING MOVIEWhen Kevin's parents discover they've forgotten him, they find it impossible to get anyone to follow through on their panicked calls - if anyone did so, the movie would be over. But in the contrived world of this movie, the only neighbor is an old coot who is rumored to be the Snow Shovel Murderer, and the phone doesn't work. He might also try calling someone, or asking a neighbor for help. So he makes the best of it.Ī real kid would probably be more frightened than this movie character, and would probably cry. When he wakes up later that morning, the house is empty. There are relatives and kids everywhere, and when the family oversleeps and has to race to the airport, Kevin is somehow overlooked in the shuffle. The movie opens in the Chicago suburbs with a houseful of people on the eve of a big family Christmas vacation in Paris. What I didn't enjoy was the subplot involving the burglars ( Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), who are immediately spotted by little Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), and made the targets of his cleverness. If "Home Alone" had limited itself to the things that might possibly happen to a forgotten 8-year-old, I think I would have liked it more. This time, he strays so far from his premise that the movie suffers. His best movies, such as " Sixteen Candles," " The Breakfast Club," " Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and " Planes, Trains and Automobiles," find a way to be funny while still staying somewhere within the boundaries of remote plausibility. Up Next: The sky is falling, it's crushed Hand Drawn animation, this era, and worse yet decency. The movie's screenplay is by John Hughes, who sometimes shows a genius for remembering what it was like to be young. "Home on the Range" is a strange film, while enjoyable for the fans of Westerns it can get tedious for them at times, but it is serviceable enough to pass the time with a child without being too annoying or tiresome. ![]() It's not perfect even for Western fans though considering that some of it's jokes are really more for the young then for the adults, and those are pretty annoying. if you're a fan of Westerns, if not one might feel bored throughout it. The heroines must save their farm because the owner is about to lose it, so they go after an outlaw to get the money and the protagonist Maggie wants revenge because of a previous encounter with him. It's plot is not the most original but it doesn't matter much considering this is meant to be a parody on Western films. The rest of the cast does a pretty good job and will not tire the older audience out. Randy Quaid performs well as the film's antagonist Alameda Slim, who acts like a stereotypical evil cowboy, which was of course the intention. who is pretty funny, but comes off as a talkative version of other silent horses in animated films that were meant to be humorous. ![]() Racing against the heroines to capture the bad guy is Buck, a stallion voiced by Cuba Gooding Jr. Calloway and Grace respectively) that come along with Maggie on her quest to save their farm, they work pretty well and never annoy or agitate the audience. ![]() Judi Dench and Jennifer Tilly voice the two cows (Mrs. Roseanne Barr plays a cow named Maggie, she has some fun moments that are humorous and works well enough as a protagonist for the audience to care for her. The songs are decent as well and won't annoy anyone, but it isn't anything special and won't stay in mind long. This film provides a score that isn't too bad, and will make one feel like they're watching a Western for kids. This film provides animation that could best be described as quite possibly the best Disney straight to video animation, only it was theatrical. The film does provide some nice coloring, and the movement isn't to bad but it's minor successes are badly over shadowed. The film's cg does not mesh well and with the amount used it's fairly noticeable that Disney already wanted to leave traditional animation behind. The character designs are not the worst, but they have a flat look to them that only gets worse because the cg around them makes them look even more flat. When compared to previous studio outings, "Home on the Range" really lacks in terms of animation.
